Two different numbers get called "the cardamom price": the auction rate a grower receives, and the FOB rate an importer pays. This page shows both, side by side, so you can see exactly what sits between them. The auction figure is pulled from the Spices Board of India feed. Our export rates are per grade and quoted for your port.

Cardamom is the second most expensive spice in the world by weight, after saffron, and its price is set by a narrow supply base. India grows small cardamom almost entirely in the Western Ghats — Kerala's Idukki district dominates, with Coorg in Karnataka and the Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu making up most of the rest. When rainfall is erratic during the flowering months, arrivals at the auction fall and the rate climbs within weeks.
Three further factors sit on top of the farm price. Demand from the Gulf rises sharply before Ramadan, when cardamom consumption peaks in tea and coffee. Guatemala supplies roughly half the world crop, so a poor Guatemalan harvest lifts the Indian rate directly. And grading is expensive: turning a mixed farm lot into uniform 8mm bold pods means a meaningful share of the bought weight is diverted to smaller grades, so the bold grades carry that cost.
For a buyer, the practical lesson is to buy against a specification rather than a headline rate. Two suppliers quoting the same per-kg figure can be delivering very different pods once moisture, splits and colour are measured. Our COA reports show what each lot actually tested at.
Send the grade, the quantity and your discharge port. We reply within one business day with an FOB or CIF price, the COA for the current lot, and the document set for your market.
